Sunday 1 September – Market Day and Happy
Father’s Day
Today I woke up deciding that this would be
a slack day (just like all of them) until I realised that today is the day of
the fortnightly Nikenbah market, situated about ten kms out of Hervey Bay, and
as I wanted to get some of Mim’s Magic crook knee cream, I thought that would
be a good opportunity to get some.
But first of all it is Father’s day, so I
asked Grant if he would like bacon and eggs for breakfast as a special
treat. He thought that sounded pretty
good, but when I started getting organised to cook them in the van, he took
over and did the cooking in the camp kitchen (less cleaning up than in the van). So he finished up cooking his own Father’s Day
brekky.
We got to the market at about ten o’clock
and it was in full swing. It is a big
market, with all proceeds going to the local animal shelter, and there were
heaps of people there, with I reckon every second one having their dog (or
dogs) with them. There were dogs
everywhere. As he stepped out of the
car, Grant picked up $3.20 off the ground beside the car! We did a quick lap of the stalls – I found
what I was looking for and we left - main reason being that it was very
gravelly, and with me wearing sandals, I had gravel under the soles of my feet
all the time. Not comfortable!!
The couple in the van behind us were there –
she had a stall selling the jewellery she makes – and they got there to set up
at 4.30am and the first customers rolled in at 6am!! Not my idea of a holiday.
From there we returned to camp and just
spent the rest of the day there before going to the Boat Club for tea with the Caseys
and Browns. We had a lovely meal, Grant
and Ray had a bit of a flutter on the pokies – Ray treating himself as it is
his birthday tomorrow and Grant just because he could! They both lost. From there we went back to their caravan park
and played cards until about ten thirty.
And that was today.
