Saturday 7 September 2013 – Election Day
and last day in Hervey Bay
I am writing this on Sunday as it was a bit
late when we got home last night, as will become obvious. We woke to another perfect day – clear blue
sky and an eventual temperature of around 28 – even at wake up time it is
warm. Yes the overcast conditions of earlier
this week have gone.
I did some washing this morning and had a
read and some cuppas while Grant went to get a haircut (he didn’t pack his
clippers). However he came back unshorn,
as several of the barber/hairdressing shops were shut, one had about six people
waiting and the other one wanted $32 to cut his hair, so he baulked at
that. My price is obviously too cheap
and has spoiled him! So after he got
back we went for a walk along the beach.
As we were walking, we could see some sort
of activity just up past the pier at Torquay, with lots of colourful Bali sails
flapping, and quite a number of people obviously standing watching. We decided (or perhaps I decided) that it was
a meet of the Nippers (little kid lifesavers) and they were doing their
events. But as we got closer, it became
obvious that I was wrong and it was in fact a wedding! By the time we got to where it was the
ceremony was over, but everyone (including the bride and groom) were packing up
the flags, chairs, flowers and two huge palm leaves which had been tied into a
heart shape and formed the backdrop – along with the sea – of the ceremony.

Once back from our walk we went shopping to
replenish supplies as we head southward tomorrow, and after we got back to the
caravan I made the salad I was taking to the Brown’s caravan park where we had
a bbq with them and their friends Terry and Elaine. Before leaving to go there
though we semi lowered our van and took the awning off, as it’s usually moist with
dew in the morning.
And though we went to the Brown’s at about
5.30, we didn’t eat till latish, then talked (as you do) before going to Elaine
and Terry’s for a cuppa, as it was getting coolish outside. And then we played cards – Phase 10, which is
a long game anyway, and what with starting late, the television on and being
switched between the Collingwood elimination final and the election result
coverage, the game had to be aborted at 11.40pm as we were still some way from
finished.

So obviously, by the time you say goodbye
to everyone, have another conversation start and finish, and drive back to our
park, it was around midnight by the time we got back, so I went to bed.
